Every step from paper to the first Outpost, newest first. No hype, just progress.
The site grows up: accounts, referrals, and a lot more
Big day for the website. You can now build your own Outpost with live pricing and pick any of 257 accessories one at a time, then sort and filter the whole catalog.
The first concept renders of the cab and camper interior are up in the Inside section on the home page, and the site now welcomes Canada too.
Want to help build the first Outpost? We're looking for engineers, fabricators, and designers on the Help build it page.
Almost ready for reservations
The site grew up today. It now has the full accessory catalog, specs, an FAQ, and the policies a real company needs. We also set up payments for $25 refundable deposits, a logo, and this build log.
Reservations will open once the last setup steps are done. Sign up below and we'll email you the day they do.
Day one: the Outpost on paper
RUFUS RETROISTICS started today with a simple idea: a small, tough, fixable 4x4 camper van, inspired by the Soviet UAZ "Bukhanka" and the classic Westfalia campers.
By the end of the day the Outpost had a shape: 16 ft long, forward-control cab, engine under a doghouse between the seats, full mechanical 4x4, and a pop-top on every van. It also had three tiers (Post, Camp, Fort), four engines including THE HALO ENGINE, and a plan for over 250 accessories, every one sold on its own.
Next up is Phase 1: building a running test van, the mule.
